ARENE DE LUTECE

This Roman arena dates back to the 2nd century during the Roman occupation of Lutetia.  It had a seating capacity of 15 000 and people would attend theatrical performances and gladiator fights at this venue.

The arena was largely dismantled in the 4th century by the Barbarians and the stones used to build the walls of Paris.  It was rediscovered in 1869 and restored in 1918.
