Ask a Frenchman standing on the shore at Evian to name the lake before him and he will answer, "Lac Léman", but the same question put to a German-speaking Swiss will result in the answer, "Genfersee"!
English-speakers will remember learning about "Lake Geneva" in their Geography classes.
Other names for this lake have included: Lacus Lemannus (in Roman times), Limanos (in Ancient Greek) and Lac de Lausanne (in the Middle Ages) - but despite the changes in its name, the lake remains the same.
