The centre of the old part of Sarlat has been magnificently restored giving one an authentic impression of what it must have been like in earlier times. The fact that the narrow streets are largely car-free, adds to its charm.
The town is on the French list for nomination as a UNESCO World Heritage site due to the support of Andre Malraux, World War II resistance fighter, writer and Minister of Culture in the 60s.
