The Lalinde Canal runs parallel to the Dordogne River from Mauzac-et-Grand-Castang for a distance of approximately 15 km. It was constructed between 1838 and 1843 to speed up river traffic by providing a detour around a particularly treacherous and rocky stretch of the river.
The arrival of the railroad in the area made the use of river transport redundant, so now the picturesque towpaths winding through the countryside are used only by cyclists and hikers.
