The last in this series on travelling in France features a photograph taken while travelling on the A71 south of Bourges. The question arises: Why are these motorways referred to as "freeways"?
They are not "free" - one has to pay to use them; One is not "free" to do as one pleases - there are rules that have to be obeyed; There are restrictions on speed ... not too fast and not too slow either!
You'll feel more "free" travelling the backroads and it won't cost you a centime!
