CHATEAU DE CASTELNAUD

I photographed the imposing Chateau de Castelnaud while on a river cruise in a gabarre on the Dordogne.

This medieval fortress dates back to the Hundred Years War between England and France.  The chateau was occupied for most of the war by the English and from its ramparts they could keep an eye on their French adversaries in the castle at Beynac, about two or three kilometres away.
