Le Chateau de Beynac looks so much more imposing when photographed from a boat on the Dordogne. We went for a trip in a gabarre yesterday and this afforded us spectacular views of the chateaux constructed during the 100 Years War. The flat-bottomed gabarres (see below) were used to transport wares up and down the river for centuries before the railways were established.
