According to legend a pilgrim passing through the valley where one now finds the town of Paunat, swore that if his staff were to take root, he would build a church on that spot. Apparently the staff sprouted roots and consequently the abbey church of St Martia was established in the 12th century.
Paunat is a small picturesque village in the Dordogne, east of Bergerac.
